Born Nagano-ken in 1970, Nishizawa lives in Yokohama. He graduated from the Painting Faculty of Tokyo Zokei University, and trained as a printmaker, however he now creates his intricate work using his original method where a composition is worked on tracing paper then it is painted onto canvas. Then the picture is wholly covered by masking tape. Each person and building is cutout and paints are applied. Also, using aerial view elements found in Japanese traditional painting style 'Yamato-e', he expresses the 'unreal feel' which dominates the present day Japan and attempts to create a new style of Japanese paintings. His series with the titles like advertisement copy such as 'Happy Garden' or 'Enjoy Car Life' shows an unreal and uneasy side of the conformity of the so -called 'Ideal Life Style' promoted by businesses. Since the exhibition of 'Happy Garden' at Tokyo Gallery in 2005, his popularity grew rapidly abroad, especially in Asia' and his work started appearing in auctions in New York. One of the artists whose future activity is eagerly awaited.
