One such is Andy Warhol, so famous that no further explanation should be needed here. It is still a fresh memory for us that one of his representative works ‘GREEN CAR CRUSH’ fetched US $71.72 million in May 2007 at Christie's in New York.
We, @Gallery TAGBOAT, have the most popular and the choicest silkscreen works of Warhol, all of them in great condition. There is no other gallery in Japan with this level of catalog.

Next artist of choice is Yayoi Kusama. She moved to the US in 1957, quickly established herself with her giant works with the monochrome background covered with nets of the same color. In the 60s, she led various movements and activities of a radical nature, called 'happenings' including body-paintings, fashion shows and protests against Vietnam War, causing uproar in the New York art scene, and was called 'the queen of polka dots'. After coming back to Japan in 1973, she has published numerous novels and poems. Her retrospective solo exhibition was held at New York International Art Center in 1989, and she also represented Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1993.

From 1998 to 1999, her retrospective solo exhibition toured the Los Angeles County Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, New York and Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. She is truly one of the artists representing the modern Japanese art scene. The consistent themes covering all her works are the repeating and multiplying 'polka dots' and the forever expanding 'nets', which are said to be based on the hallucinations she experienced as a girl, the motif she has been drawing since she was about 10 years old.¡¡Looking into the 'polka dots' and the 'nets' covering her concrete objects, you would certainly feel her esoteric and profound world. Why not experience the depth with her affordable print works?

Tagboat Original Artworks

Hiroyuki Matsuura

After working as a graphic designer for anime character goods for 20 years, Matsuura started exhibiting his own works inspired by 'GEISAI', organized by Takashi Murakami. Soon followed the solo exhibition at Tokyo Gallery, then Shanghai, Beijing and various venues in Europe, all of them with great success and increasing popularity¡¥His works are very popular in the Asian contemporary arts auctions, fetching 6 to 8 times the original prices at Christie's and Sotheby's. Anime is the new cultural phenomenon which represents modern Japan, and while many artists have been influenced by it, he is one of those who contributed toward creating it. We, @Gallery TAGBOAT, have carefully chosen eight characters from the popular 'Acrylic Box' series released so far, and serialized them into new editions.

The exclusive product is made of original-accurate print on canvas with a 22¡ß22¡ß2.2Ñ wood frame, packaged with blister casing and plastic board like a toy, with the artist's own signature on the front of the package. This type of packaged artwork is particularly popular with the character goods generation, and the concept itself is well supported for giving extra scope to expand the viewer's imagination.

On the mount of the product it reads 'The situation, nationality and sex of the character is up to your imagination'. Matsuura explains 'There is no fixed story for the Mona Lisa and I thought width and depth might be created in that way; it could be more interesting if every viewer threw in their own feeling and created a story, then I wondered if it might be enough for me to provide only the outside part'. Since these are products whose owner can enjoy in their individual and personal ways, they will certainly enhance your room, making your beloved space more 'you'. You can choose one, but why not spoil yourself, and collect all eight characters?

Chiharu Nishizawa

Having short listed at the 'VOCA' exhibition, consisting of artworks recommended by curators, journalists and academics nation-wide, in 2004, Chiharu Nishizawa exhibited at Tokyo Gallery in 2005 with explosive success, establishing himself abroad, especially in Asia. In the buoyant Asian art market, where the price of artworks is showing unprecedented increases, Christie's, Hong kong, is doing a booming trade and his work has been sold at three times the estimate, in the region of 7.5 million yen at the auction on 28th May 2006.

Using aerial view elements found in Japanese traditional style painting 'Yamato-e', he depicts modern Japanese society, expressing his views regarding present day Japan with numerous 'Oyaji'- middle aged salarymen- in droves. If you look at them carefully they are not all the same. For example there are these Oyajis, thin on top, marching happily shoulder to shoulder while not far from them, another group of them staggering together with ropes around their necks. And elsewhere, there are two Oyajis fighting... What the artist wants to say seems to be that there are lot of things happening, at the personal level, in this so-called conformistic society and it is actually quite rich and interesting even though it is branded as banal and boring. He must be creating his artwork with tremendous attention to detail such as each person's thoughts and everyday encounters, creating a story for each person depicted in his work. This is an artwork whose details are worth paying attention to, not just viewing from a distance but up close, observing it, reading it.

His technique is also unique and detailed. On painting a person, in order to make a sharp and clear edge, he cuts out masking tape to the shape of the person and paints, and repeats that many, many times. He quotes and exploits the traditional Japanese painting formats and styles, such as blank spaces. The buildings are shown without roofs, which is the technique often used in traditional works such as picture scrolls of the Tale of Genji. His are not the artworks to give instant impact, but are the kind which make you stop and look, for a long time.
