光のいけばな(黒色) ikebana light (Black color)

ガラスのいけばなをイメージして、いけばなの型を踏襲し、ガラスに色ガラスを付けて3回炉で巻き、その後、独自の吊り技法で(型に入れてガラスを再度溶かし、自然の引力を利用して垂れてきたところで、引き上げる技法)制作した。

With the image of Ikebana made of glass, I followed the pattern of Ikebana, attached colored glass to the glass, winded it three times in a furnace, and then used the unique hanging technique (put it in a mold, melt the glass again, and let the glass hanging down using the force of gravity).

芸術家、京都大学特定教授
感情・意識・物語・民族性といった人間が歴史の中で行為や文法などの形で蓄えてきた文化を、デジタル映像で表現し、心で感じる「カルチュラル・コンピューティング」を提唱し、作品制作・研究を行う。主な作品にニューヨーク近代美術館コレクションの『An Expression』1993年のArs Electoronicaで招待展示したAIで感情認識する『ニューロベイビー』、2012年韓国麗水万博では、コミッションワークとして、「アジアの四神」の龍をメインストリートに張り巡らされた350mx30m幅のLEDスクリーンに龍を泳がせて、話題になった。京都五山建仁寺に奉納した『静寂』『雲の上の山水』、MIT Center for Visual StudiesのFellow時代に制作した『ZEN Computer』、ハイスピードカメラを使った『Space Flower』『Genesis』がある。2016年度文化庁文化交流使として指名を受け8カ国10都市を表敬訪問し、NY Times Squareのビルボード60台以上を使って毎夜『Sound of Ikebana』を1ヵ月間上映するなど国際的に活躍している。

Profile

Naoko Tosa is an artist who has been creating artworks expressing Japanese tradition and culture utilizing digital technologies.
At this solo exhibition she is exhibiting 10 pieces of her new artworks titled“Japanese Sanctuary”that expresses silence and at the same time dynamism based on Japanese“Zen” and “Shinto.”
NAOKO TOSA is an internationally renowned Japanese media artist, born in 1961 in Fukuoka, Japan.
After receiving a Ph.D. for Art and Technology research from the University of Tokyo.
She was a fellow artist at the Center for Advanced Visual Studes, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2002 to 2004.
Currently she is a professor at Kyoto University.
She has exhibited her artworks at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the New York Metropolitan Art Museum,the Long Beach Museum, International Berlin Film Festival New media Division and other many locations worldwide.
