This work highlights a critical perspective on consumer society through multi-layered layers of acrylic paint and toner ink transfers, as well as a collage of receipts collected in Europe in 2017. The work suggests that the value of art can easily collapse depending on how it is accumulated, just as wine ages, and the use of receipts, which are currently banned in France, highlights the danger of bankruptcy created by a chain of desires. By suggesting that one person's trivial consumption can shake the entire society, the film sounds a warning bell for the future of the consumer society.
[Concept of the series]
This series [mirrorge/ mirage] is a term coined by the artist with the dual meanings of "mirror" and "mirage" and is an important theme. VIKI describes his works as mirrors that reflect the viewer. In other words, they are 'mirrors' of our time. However, 'mirror' is an imaginary image that reflects the face and parts of oneself that one wants to see reversed. The other meaning, "mirage," refers to a phenomenon that occurs only when the conditions are right, and the visible image collapses when approached. The [mirage] associated with these meanings is the very expression of the times, as VIKI sees it through receipts, a symbol of consumption.
