2022年 多摩美術大学環境デザイン学科建築専攻卒業。
2023年 美術の側面から建築にアプローチしようとロンドン芸術大学へ留学。
2024年同大ファインアート学科卒業。
結晶を媒体とし、時間や死生観をテーマに制作。人生の儚さと時間の流れを結晶を通じて可視化する表現を行っている。
英国美術界の最重要機関のロイヤル・アカデミーが 1769年から開催し続ける世界最古の公募展「RA Summer exhibition」にて、2024年の〈British Institution Fund Award (英国機関基金賞)〉を日本人で初めて受賞。
これを受け、世界の新進気鋭のアーティストを紹介する「Al-Tiba9 Art Magazine」(スペイン)、「FOA(FRIEND OF THE ARTIST)」(アメリカ)といったアートメディアに取り上げられる。国内外を問わず、ヨーロッパや中国をはじめとする幅広い地域で展示を行い、国際的な舞台でもその活動の幅を広げている。

アーティストステートメント
人生は線香花火のように限られた時間の中で輝き、終わっていく。 儚い時間の流れの中で情報が昇華される世界で、個々の存在意義はどこにあるのだろうか。 私の作品制作は、結晶を媒体としている。液体が時と共に立体と変化していく結晶化の自然現象を用いて、氷のように情報を閉じ込め、時を凍結する。朧に存在する私たちの生命力。絶え間なく脈打つ鼓動。思い出の地。消えてほしくない情報を結晶に乗せて凍結することで、不可視な情報を可視化することができる。
振動によって促され、形状を変える結晶化の特徴を用いて、被写体を捉えた写真と被写体の心拍音とともに結晶を成長させる。心音から発芽する結晶は、容姿などの消えゆく情報を結晶の中に凍結、保存する。結晶の輝きは見えない生命力へと生まれ変わり、鑑賞者に過去、現在、未来への移り変わる時間に思いをはせる。
時とともに結晶は変化していく。表面の傷は時間とともに再生し、被写体の表情は白濁した結晶により幻想的に不明瞭になっていくが、水を与えることで輝きを取り戻す。
凍結によって、想いを未来に紡ぐ様子は、まるでタイムカプセルのようである。
Profile
Arashi Tanaka is a mixed-media artist born in 2000 in Fukuoka, Japan. After graduating from the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design Major at Tama Art University in 2022, he pursued his artistic career at the University of the Arts London, focusing on the intersection of art and architecture, and graduated from the Fine Arts department in 2024. He uses crystals as a medium to create works centered on themes of time and the concept of life and death. Through crystals, he aims to visualize the fleeting nature of life and the passage of time.
In 2024, Arashi Tanaka became the first Japanese artist to receive the British Institution Fund Award at the RA Summer Exhibition, the oldest open-submission art exhibition in the world, hosted annually by the Royal Academy of Arts since 1769.
Following this recognition, Tanaka has been featured in prominent art publications such as "Al-Tiba9 Art Magazine" (Spain) and "FOA (Friend of the Artist)" (USA), which spotlight emerging global artists. His works have been exhibited internationally, in regions such as Europe and China, expanding his presence on global stages.
