This work, No.52 from the etching portfolio 52 Ki, is from an edition of 52 and bears the artist’s hand signature in the lower right.
Built from an accumulation of finely engraved lines, the composition evokes fragments of trees, rock surfaces, and geological formations. The dense network of marks suggests traces of growth and erosion, drawing the viewer into a contemplative spatial depth.
Beyond sculpture, Wakabayashi’s printmaking also reflects his enduring investigation of materiality and space. This work embodies his philosophical engagement with the boundaries between nature and humanity, presence and emptiness, resulting in an image that is both quiet and profoundly resonant.
