Created in 2020, this signed work combines silkscreen and spray paint and is edition of 15. The repetition inherent to printmaking coexists with the spontaneous particles and soft dispersions of sprayed pigment.
Vivid blue and red lines overlap, gathering into—and dissolving from—forms that evoke figures and urban structures. No contour remains entirely fixed; instead, the image seems to flicker like an afterimage left by a body in motion, giving the still surface an unexpected sense of speed and rhythm.
Equally striking is the generous use of open space. Obata’s enduring exploration of the relationship between body and space, informed by his experience in breakdancing, emerges here through lines that feel at once physical, improvisational, and remarkably light.
