Lawrence Weiner is a key figure in conceptual art, known for using language itself as his primary material.

Since the late 1960s, he has developed text-based works grounded in the idea that a work of art does not need to exist as a physical object. His concise statements function as sculptures, realized through the viewer’s interpretation rather than material form.

Appearing on walls, in books, and across public spaces, his language challenges conventional notions of production, installation, and ownership. In his artist’s books as well, the act of reading becomes the artwork itself.

Minimal yet open-ended, Weiner’s practice fundamentally redefined the relationship between language and art in contemporary practice.
