福井直子の作品は異素材を巧みに組み合わせた独自の世界観で観る者を魅了します。油絵を基盤にしながら布やビーズ、スパンコールなどの素材が縫い付けられた作品は輝きが加わりまるで夢の中のよう。幼少期から何かを作ることが好きだった福井は、編み物が得意な祖母や美術教師の母の影響を受けて育ちました。紙人形や粘土で遊んだ幼き日の創造力は現在の制作にも色濃く反映されています。
制作では普段の生活の中で印象に残ったものを写真やスケッチで記録し、それらをもとにキャンバスに向かいます。描く行為を通してその瞬間を思い起こし、記憶を閉じ込めるように作品に映し込み、ワクワクした気持ちごと作品に込めているといいます。
作品の装飾は絵を描いた後に行われます。ビーズやスパンコールを縫い付ける際にはキャンバスに穴をあけるため、一度の失敗も許されません。細心の注意と技術を要する作業によって生み出される輝きが、作品に命を吹き込みます。こうした多層的な表現が、観る者にときめきや懐かしさを呼び起こし、温かさや親しみを感じさせ、日常を離れて夢の中にいるような感覚を与えてくれるのです。
作品を前にすると、子供のころに感じた純粋なときめきや、自由な発想が思い出されます。それぞれが記憶や感情を重ね合わせながら、作品は新たな物語を紡ぎ出し、日常を彩る一片の夢として存在し続けるのです。

Her creative process starts with collecting impressions from daily life. She photographs or sketches memorable moments and transforms them into visual stories. Fukui describes her work as capturing fragments of memories, infusing each piece with excitement and wonder as if reliving those experiences.
Decorative elements like beads and sequins are added after painting. Attaching them requires piercing the canvas, leaving no room for error. This careful, technically demanding process gives her works a vibrant and handcrafted feel. The shimmering details enhance the storytelling, making each piece feel alive.
