Christian Rex van Minnen

クリスチャン・レックス・ヴァン・ミネン(Christian Rex van Minnen、1980年米国ロードアイランド州生まれ)は、身体や肖像のイメージを歪ませ、滑稽さと不穏さが同居する絵画で知られる現代美術作家。ニューヨークを拠点に活動している。

古典絵画の構図や技法を参照しつつ、肉体を過剰に変形・融合させることで、理想化された美やヒューマニズムへの違和感を露わにする。滑らかな肌理、強烈な色彩、グロテスクな形態が緊張関係を保ちながら共存し、絵画がもつ欲望、暴力性、ユーモアを鋭く浮かび上がらせる表現が特徴。デジタル時代における身体表象やアイデンティティの不安定さを、絵画というメディアで更新し続けている。

Christian Rex van Minnen (born 1980, Rhode Island, USA) is a contemporary artist based in New York, known for his unsettling and darkly humorous figurative paintings.

Drawing on the visual language of classical painting, van Minnen distorts and mutates the human body, creating grotesque yet seductive images that challenge ideals of beauty, identity, and humanism. Smooth surfaces, vivid colors, and exaggerated forms coexist in tension, revealing painting’s capacity to convey desire, violence, and satire. His work reflects anxieties surrounding the body in the digital age, continually reexamining the role of figurative painting in contemporary art.
