谷敷謙(ヤシキ ケン)は1983年東京都生まれ。杉野服飾大学卒業後、アパレル業界での経験を経て美術家として活動を開始した。

谷敷は、雛人形などに用いられる日本の伝統技法「木目込み(きめこみ)」を用いた作品で知られる。溝を彫った支持体に布地を押し込むこの技法を絵画表現として再解釈し、古着や布素材を画面に組み込むことで、テキスタイルと絵画の境界を横断する独自の表現を展開している。

素材として使用される衣服は、誰かが実際に身につけていたものであり、そこには時間や身体の記憶が刻まれている。谷敷はそうした衣服に宿る痕跡を作品の一部として取り込み、「存在の証」や「記憶の継承」といったテーマを絵画として可視化している。

近年は国内外のアートフェアや展覧会で発表を続けており、伝統技法と現代的な視点を融合させた作品で注目を集めている。

Ken Yashiki (born 1983 in Tokyo) graduated from Sugino Fashion College and began his career after working in the apparel industry.

Yashiki is known for works created using kimekomi, a traditional Japanese technique originally used in doll making. By carving grooves into a base and inserting pieces of fabric, he reinterprets this craft method as a contemporary pictorial practice, crossing the boundaries between textile and painting.

The fabrics used in his works are often garments that were once worn by someone. These materials carry traces of time, memory, and bodily presence. By incorporating such elements into his compositions, Yashiki visualizes themes of existence, memory, and the continuation of personal histories.

In recent years, he has exhibited widely in Japan and internationally, presenting works that merge traditional Japanese craft techniques with contemporary artistic perspectives.
