Mai Miyake entrusts traditional Japanese auspicious symbols and folkloric motifs to animal forms, unfolding a distinctive visual language in which tradition and contemporaneity resonate in quiet harmony. Profile

横浜生まれ。独学。2001年より作家活動を開始。
日本独自の感覚に立脚しながら、展示される空間を生かし、繊細かつ大胆にサイトスペシフィックな作品を展開する作家。
画廊や美術館、アートフェアでの展示のみならず、企業とのコラボレーション(銀座メゾンエルメス、高島屋、森美術館ミュージアムショップなど)、本の装丁など、活動は多岐にわたる。
2008-9年、奨学金を得て、Ecole Nationale superieur des Beaux-Arts(パリ国立美術大学大学院)に留学。
2010年ドゥラメール・フィメール・アーティストアワードを受賞。

Born in Yokohama.

Miyake Mai began her career as an artist in 2001.
Her art work can be viewed as a modern translation of the past Japanese esprit.
Traditional symbols such as dog or mouse from the Japanese zodiac signs are carefully places within the canvas, creating an art work which seems new, but carries a nostalgic feeling within.
