This set includes the limited-edition work Velvet–Manifold (NB) and one copy of the latest monograph METAMORPHOSIS, a 344-page volume featuring more than 150 works, with a focus on pieces created after the artist’s solo exhibition SYNTHESIS held in 2011 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
The sculptural work bears a laser-engraved signature and edition number on its base.

“Manifold” is a monumental sculptural series centered on the themes of “information, matter, and energy.” Spherical forms (cells), created from digital clay within a virtual three-dimensional space, collide, deform, and expand under gravitational force, alluding to ever-growing information systems and the fractures inherent in contemporary energy issues. A large-scale installation from this series was realized in 2013 in Cheonan, South Korea.

Velvet – Manifold (NB) explores the point at which tactile sensation and structural thinking intersect. The term “Velvet,” evoking softness and sensuous texture, is juxtaposed with “Manifold,” suggesting multilayered and polysemous expansion, together generating a quiet yet concentrated tension between the visual and the conceptual.

This work goes beyond the mere presentation of form or material, incorporating abstract elements such as time, repetition, and difference, thereby subtly unsettling the viewer’s perception. Its restrained palette and meticulous construction avoid overt assertion while imparting a distinct presence within space, opening a margin for contemplation. The work is presented not only as a completed form, but as a “state” that continues to be renewed through the interpretations of each viewer.
