[Second skin] シリーズ
本シリーズ[Second skin/ セカンドスキン] はレシートをコピーし、コピーしたものを再度コピーする行為を重ね、イメージが崩れた図像をシルクスクリーンで施した作品です。
現代において「多様性」という言葉が乱用される昨今、「オリジナル(唯一無二)」とは何でしょうか。多様性が尊重される一方で、皆が同じであろうとする空気感にも矛盾を感じている、とVIKI は語ります。人は模倣や試行錯誤を繰り返し、環境に影響を受けながら変化していくことを学びます。そして、それらの出来事の積み重ねによって歴史が生まれます。世界は無数のイメージやインスピレーションに満ちており、その中で生まれるものは、過去の創造の延長線上にあります。だからこそ、何がオリジナルで、何がコピーなのか、その境界が曖昧になるのも自然なことです。その変化の中で、私たちは歴史をつむぎ、新しいものを生み出しています。現代にあふれるアートやテクノロジーもそうです。オリジナルは存在しないとも言えるし、すべてがオリジナルだとも言えるのではないでしょうか。
[Second skin] Series
The “Second skin” series consists of works created by repeatedly photocopying receipts?copying a copy again and again?until the images collapse, and then transferring those distorted figures through silkscreen.
In today’s world, where the word “diversity” is often overused, what does “original [one of a kind]” truly mean? While diversity is celebrated, VIKI notes the contradiction in the atmosphere that simultaneously pressures everyone to be the same. Human beings learn by repeating imitation and trial-and-error, constantly transforming under the influence of their environment. Through the accumulation of such experiences, history is born.
The world is overflowing with countless images and inspirations, and what emerges within it always lies on the continuum of past creations. For this reason, it is only natural that the boundary between what is original and what is a copy becomes blurred. Within such transformations, we weave history and generate the new. The same can be said of contemporary art and technology. One might say the original does not exist at all?or conversely, that everything is original.
