My work explores the themes of atonement and isolation. As someone born biracial, I navigate the complex structure of a divided identity?split between two homelands. This sense of duality, along with the inner dissonance between my adult self and the unchanging, childlike psyche that exists within all of us?the inner child?forms the foundation of my work.
My creative process involves sculpting a representation of my childhood self in clay and then translating it into painting. The unstable and ambiguous identity of my younger self took on various forms, shaped by both hope and anxiety. As I depict these clay sculptures, the traces of my thoughts and memories manifest as exaggerated textures and distortions, breathing life into the work.
Through my art, I aim to examine the sense of inner solitude and instability that lingers in contemporary society. By presenting these works, I hope to create a space where viewers can see a reflection of themselves?an opportunity for introspection and connection.
