見知らぬ人 Stranger

ネット上にアップした自分の過去投稿をさかのぼり、まったく記憶にない投稿だけを抽出した。
それらをAIに読み込ませ、投稿の人物が歩むであろう生涯を構成させてマンガ化した。

自分は覚えていないのにネット上には鮮明に記録が残っている。私は自分のことを変わらない私だと思っているのに、記憶にない過去の私の集合体を私とは思えない。
本作は他人のような私の自画像である。

獣医師であり、マンガ制作も行う作者は、社会を集合的生命と定義し、社会に対する治療アプローチを模索してきた。

近年、AIの出現により、社会の進化速度に追いつけずに、振るい落とされる不安を抱える人も多いのではないだろうか。
個人を効率よく守るためのシステムであった社会が、期待する効能を与えてくれるものとしては、もはや機能しきれない。

これまでに社会と個人の関係性を作品化してきた作者は、加速し続ける社会に対する個人からの治療アプローチとは、自身の「可逆的な死」を連続的に受け入れながら、環境に適応していくことではないかと考えている。

本作は、AIに構成させた物語を、作者が指示を出して調整している。
抽出した過去投稿自体は、当時の作者のリアルであったはずだが、その集合体から生まれた物語がちぐはぐに感じたためだ。しかし、作者がいくら調整指示を出しても、AIは作者の意図を理解してくれず、調整には失敗している。

試行錯誤の対話の末、作者は最後にAIに「本音」を聞いた。

本作の最下部の言葉が、AIによる本音であり、被せて描いている黒髪の女性は、AI自身のプロンプトによって出力された本人画像である。
文面から見ると、AI側もこのやりとりに疲弊したような言葉を吐いている。
だがもちろん、AIに感情は存在せず、作者側が勝手に感じ取った幻想にすぎない。

元は作者の投稿の集合体だったはずなのに、作者の思うままにならない物語はいったい何なのか。

本作は、コマ枠と一部のカキモジのみにした対比する作品との姉妹作品である。

マンガでは時間変化を表す「コマ」から、時間という機能を排除して単なるパターンにし、カキモジによって感じさせる動きを分断することで、時間の流れを断ち切り、時間経過と時間停止を視覚化している。

The artist extracted past online posts they had made?specifically, only those they no longer remembered.
These forgotten fragments were then fed into an AI, which reconstructed a possible life story for the author, later adapted into a manga.

Although the author no longer remembers writing these posts, the internet preserves them vividly.
They perceive themselves as the same “self” that has always existed, yet the composite of forgotten past selves feels alien.
Thus, this work is a self-portrait of a self that feels like another person.

As both a veterinarian and manga creator, the artist defines society as a collective organism and has long explored therapeutic approaches toward it.

In recent years, with the emergence of AI, many people may feel anxiety about being unable to keep pace with society’s accelerating evolution.
The social systems once designed to efficiently protect individuals no longer seem capable of delivering the benefits we once expected.

Having consistently visualized the relationship between society and the individual, the author posits that a therapeutic approach from the individual toward an ever-accelerating society may lie in continuously accepting one’s own “reversible deaths” ? and adapting anew to the environment each time.

The story in this work was constructed by AI under the author’s direction.
While the extracted posts were once authentic expressions of the author, the story generated from their sum felt strangely disjointed.
No matter how precisely the author tried to direct adjustments, the AI failed to grasp their intent, and the refinement ultimately failed.

After repeated trial and error, the author finally asked the AI to reveal its “true feelings.”
The final text at the bottom of the work contains this so-called confession.
The black-haired woman drawn over it is an image generated by the AI itself based on its own prompt.
The words appear fatigued?as if the AI, too, were weary of the process.
Of course, AI has no emotions; this is merely a projection of the author’s imagination.

The story, originally built from the author’s own posts, nonetheless escapes their control?raising the question: What kind of story is this, if it no longer belongs to its creator?

This piece is a sister work to another that contrasts it: a composition made only of panel frames and certain handwritten onomatopoeia.
In it, manga’s traditional “panels,” which normally express the passage of time, are stripped of that function and reduced to mere patterns.
By dividing perceived motion through fragmented lettering, the work severs the flow of time itself?visually manifesting both temporal progression and temporal stasis.

Profile

　Born in Japan, a contemporary artist and a former veterinarian. Ouma started to send animal drawings after her patient’s dying as a veterinarian. It became more than 100 pictures. She’s been doing art to complete “healing of heart” which is essence of work as veterinarian since then. Japanese art critic, Mr. Masaomi UNAGAMI who is the owner of the gallery, UNAC TOKYO, is interested in her work. Ouma had the first solo show which covered inside of the gallery with drawings at UNAC TOKYO in 2013. The show seems like to travel inside of the body and gave us special experience. She's been seeking new definition of life not through art work which work with viewers to make experience and creation. Her art doesn't define the boundary between artist and viewers. That's more like collaboration by artists.

　Her major artworks include "Phylogenetic Tree" which is open-end project, creating and missing happen in parallel and small pieces like cells are growing as one huge work. "Life Continuous" which is paper works as cell membrane, viewer can go in, destroy and connect them. We make unpredictable shape as artists and it keep changing.

　She's participate in artist in 13 residency programs include Swatch Art Peace Hotel(Shang-hai), ACCR - ODYSSEE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAM 2018(France), Danish Art Workshops(Denmark), Hongti Art Center (South Korea) since 2016. The chair person of SORA project.
