Watanabe Hidehiro continues to engage in a variety of creative endeavors, exploring the themes of human identity as it fluctuates in modern society and the new visions that arise from it. His works are conceived with a keen eye for contemporary sensibilities, and he flexibly employs a variety of techniques, always resulting in refined and stylish output.
This work is one from a new series in which he attempts pen-and-ink drawings for the first time.

“What captures my attention is the realm of shadow, gradually fading from view in our modern society where technology floods every corner with light. As efficiency and visibility grow brighter, are ambiguity and uncertainty being pushed to the margins? Yet haven't the depth of the human spirit and the richness of culture often been nurtured in places where light does not reach? Starting from this question, the “Shadow Series” attempts to make the presence of “shadow” perceptible through abstract and spatial elements.”
