異世界転生は、日本語を扱う日本人の性質的特性の一つである。
英語では「I」という言葉一つで表される自分を表す言葉が、日本語では無数に存在する。
「私」「俺」「オレ」「僕」「ぼく」「ボク」「わたし」「拙者」「自分」「我」「わたくし」「おいどん」「アタシ」・・・

ひらがな・カタカナ・漢字、と同じ言葉の表記を変えるだけでも、本人の印象が変わることは日本語を母語とする人には分かると思う。
このように日本人は、自分を呼ぶ「I」を変えることで、自分自身の性質を簡単に変更することができる。

さらに、日本語にはもう一つ、とても興味深い特性がある。
それは、相手によって「自分が規定される」ことである。

子どもに話す時に「お母さんはね」と呼びかける人は少なくない。
相手が誰であるかや、その時の自分の役割により、自分自身が規定されるということは、環境による要求に自身が応えていることを意味する。

現代に目を向けてみると、スマホに特化した縦スクロール型マンガの世界では、主人公が「異世界転生」する話が非常に多い。
それだけ、読者の「異世界転生モノを読みたい」という欲求が多いということだろう。
物語を通じて、人は自分が異世界に転生したような気分を味わうことができる。
ではなぜ人は異世界に転生したがっているのか。
それは、現実が思い通りにならず、物理的な肉体では、自分の理想を完全に叶えることが難しいことに、絶望しているからではないか。
しかし、物理現実を手放せば、私たちはもっと自由に自分を選ぶことができる。

人は生まれを選べない。

だが今は、生まれは選べなくても、自分自身をすべて選べる世界に生きられる。
そこでは性別も年齢も人種も関係ない。
魔法使いになることも、農家になることもできる。
存在したい異世界を選ぶことで、「I」を着替えるように、私たちは容易に転生できる。
現代とは、異世界転生により、自分自身を完全にカスタマイズできる世界なのである。

本作はAIによって作画された画をトレースし、再構成した作品で、異世界で生き始めた者たちを表している。
VTuber(バーチャルユーチューバー)という概念は日本から生まれた。
マンガやアニメなどの日本から生まれたカルチャーが世界的に人気を博しているように、日本人はもともと、物語によって異世界を生み出し、その世界で当たり前のように生きるのが得意なのだ。

環境を選び、自分を選ぶこと。

異世界転生こそ、日本の自由な精神の表現であり、無限の可能性を追求する姿勢の象徴なのだ。

"Isekai reincarnation (Reincarnation in Another World)" is an inherent characteristic of the Japanese who handle the Japanese language. In English, words that represent oneself are expressed with a single word, "I," while in Japanese, there are countless expressions for oneself such as "Watashi," "Ore," "Boku," "Watakushi," "Atashi," and so on...

Changing the notation of the same word to Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji can alter the impression of the person, a nuance that native Japanese speakers would understand. In this way, the Japanese can easily alter their nature by changing the "I" with which they refer to themselves.

Furthermore, Japanese has another very interesting characteristic. It is that "oneself is defined by the other."

Many people would refer to themselves as "Mommy is..." when speaking to a child. That one's self is defined by who the other person is and one's role at that moment implies that one is responding to the demands of the environment.

Looking at the present day, in the world of vertical scroll manga specifically designed for smartphones, there are many stories where the protagonist undergoes "isekai reincarnation." This likely shows the high demand from readers who want to read about such "isekai reincarnation." Through the narrative, people can experience the feeling of having been reincarnated in a different world. So why do people desire to be reincarnated in a different world? Perhaps it's because they are despairing over the fact that reality doesn't go as desired, and it's difficult to fully realize their ideals with a physical body. However, if we let go of physical reality, we can choose ourselves more freely.

People cannot choose their birth.

But now, even if we can't choose our birth, we can live in a world where we can fully choose ourselves. In this world, neither gender, age, nor race matter. We can become wizards or farmers. By choosing the different world in which we want to exist, we can easily reincarnate, as if changing the "I". The present day is a world where we can fully customize ourselves through isekai reincarnation.

This work is a reconstituted piece that traces drawings made by AI, representing those who have begun to live in a different world. The concept of VTubers (Virtual YouTubers) was born in Japan. As Japanese culture, such as manga and anime, is globally popular, the Japanese are inherently good at creating different worlds through stories and living in them as if it were natural.

Choosing the environment and choosing oneself.

"Isekai reincarnation" is indeed an expression of the free spirit of Japan, a symbol of the pursuit of infinite possibilities.

Profile

　Born in Japan, a contemporary artist and a former veterinarian. Ouma started to send animal drawings after her patient’s dying as a veterinarian. It became more than 100 pictures. She’s been doing art to complete “healing of heart” which is essence of work as veterinarian since then. Japanese art critic, Mr. Masaomi UNAGAMI who is the owner of the gallery, UNAC TOKYO, is interested in her work. Ouma had the first solo show which covered inside of the gallery with drawings at UNAC TOKYO in 2013. The show seems like to travel inside of the body and gave us special experience. She's been seeking new definition of life not through art work which work with viewers to make experience and creation. Her art doesn't define the boundary between artist and viewers. That's more like collaboration by artists.

　Her major artworks include "Phylogenetic Tree" which is open-end project, creating and missing happen in parallel and small pieces like cells are growing as one huge work. "Life Continuous" which is paper works as cell membrane, viewer can go in, destroy and connect them. We make unpredictable shape as artists and it keep changing.

　She's participate in artist in 13 residency programs include Swatch Art Peace Hotel(Shang-hai), ACCR - ODYSSEE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAM 2018(France), Danish Art Workshops(Denmark), Hongti Art Center (South Korea) since 2016. The chair person of SORA project.
