The Depths of "SHU": Aggregation and Individuality

My creative practice revolves around the concept of "SHU" (集)—the act of gathering and aggregation.

Gathering is an act that inherently encompasses a vast spectrum of thoughts and backgrounds, manifesting through an infinite variety of processes. In contemporary society, however, the individual trajectories people have built are frequently overlooked, buried beneath the surface of generic categories and universal generalizations. My work seeks to visualize the singular values hidden within the collective—the "individual" that remains unassimilated and profound.

「TYPE」
In this series, I reconstruct words by aggregating Kanji—the smallest symbolic units of language. The subtle fluctuations in the hand-printed layers symbolize the distinct personalities and thoughts of individuals. Within the depth of layered acrylic, I depict the reality of diverse consciousnesses that thrive behind the façade of universal meaning.

「episode」
This series focuses on the "process of accumulation" experienced by a specific individual. My objective is to capture the context and the overlapping passage of time that precedes the final form, fixing these elements into tangible layers that go beyond mere words.

「me」
By aggregating the Kanji for "I" (私), I form an arrow pointing toward the future. This represents the "initial impulse"—the stage before a life takes full shape. It is an expression of pure energy, where the self gathers and gains the momentum to move toward the unknown.
